UCO has its origins in charismatic renewal. It continues to be charismatic, especially in its corporate worship.

UCO is concerned with the spiritual renewal of individual Christians, through the release of the Holy Spirit's presence and power. UCO appreciates the various gifts of the Holy Spirit as tools for empowering Christians in worship, ministry and outreach.

UCO views the Holy Spirit's activity in our generation as a time of spiritual renewal, that is, of deepening Christian fervor, strengthening elements of Christian living that have been weakened by the challenges of our age, and imparting fresh grace for the evangelization of the world.
