UCO has its origins in charismatic renewal. It continues to be charismatic, especially in its corporate worship.

UCO is concerned with the spiritual renewal of individual Christians, through the release of the Holy Spirit's presence and power. UCO appreciates the various gifts of the Holy Spirit as tools for empowering Christians in worship, ministry and outreach.

UCO views the Holy Spirit's activity in our generation as a time of spiritual renewal, that is, of deepening Christian fervor, strengthening elements of Christian living that have been weakened by the challenges of our age, and imparting fresh grace for the evangelization of the world.

UCO has its origins in ecumenical (i.e., Catholic, Protestant/ Evangelical, Orthodox) groups and movements. It continues to have an ecumenical membership.

UCO esteems the commitments of its members to their churches, and seeks to strengthen that participation. It also attempts to foster goodwill and understanding among students of differing Christian traditions.

UCO recognizes the various ecumenical advances and initiatives of our day as rooted in Christ's expressed desire for unity, as well as a practical and prophetic basis for campus evangelization.

UCO has its origin in Christian movements which emphasize growth in Christian character and virtue. It continues to stress practical, day-to-day living as Christian disciples.

A corporate, relational approach to all our activities is central to UCO's vision. It gives an important witness to our overly functional, efficiency-based culture, and provides a home for many students where friendships in Christ can be nourished.

UCO considers its communal witness to be a particular expression of Christ's ideal of committed love among his followers, as well as an effective basis for outreach.
